Symbolic
Modelling is also known as alert hypnosis, fragmentation
therapy and metaphor therapy and is a way for us to relate to
the complex world of our thoughts, feelings and bodily sensations.
At its heart is clean language, a profoundly respectful questioning
process developed by internationally acclaimed therapist David
Grove. Symbolic Modelling helps individuals become familiar with
their personal metaphors and symbols ("I'm going round in
circles," "I feel empty," "I've lost my connection
to the spiritual") so they discover new ways of perceiving
themselves and their world. When clients use metaphor to describe
their inner experience they are revealing something uniquely
personal and meaningful. A metaphor is like a hologram, it contains
the essence of the whole person; and as a client's metaphors
change, so their behaviour, thoughts and feelings change as well.
Symbolic modelling is both simple and profound; a powerful tool
that helps people to retrieve the lost fragments of personality
caused by trauma, illness, conflict and upheaval.
Who
Benefits
Practically
everyone, since metaphor is easier to express than using words
to describe how one is feeling. The unconscious mind is very much
at home when using metaphor to describe states of mind. Symbolic
Modelling is good at unlocking post-traumatic stress and deep-seated
emotional problems with out having to relive painful memories.
